Hello everyone!
Increase capacity-more displacement means more power, because you can burn
more gas during every revolution of the engine. You can increase the
displacement making larger cylinders or by adding more cylinders. 12-cylinder
seems to be the practical limit.
Increase the compression ratio-highest compression ratio produce more power,
up to a point. The more you compress the air/fuel mixture, however, the more
likely it is spontaneously burst into flames (before the spark plug it). Higher
octane gasolines to prevent this type of premature combustion. That's why
high-performance cars generally need gasoline high octane-engines use higher
compression ratios to get more power.
More stuff in each cylinder-if you can cram more air (and therefore fuel) in
a cylinder of a specific size, you can get more power from the cylinder (in the
same way that you would increase the size of the cylinder). Super charger
superchargers and pressurize the incoming air to cram more air effectively in a
cylinder.
Cool the incoming air-compressing air raises the temperature. Would love to
have the coolest possible air in the cylinder, because it's warmer than the less
air expands when combustion takes place. So many turbo charged and super-charged
cars have an intercooler. Intercooler is a special cooler through which
compressed air passes to freshen up before it enters the cylinder.
Far easier-air enters as a piston moves down on the suction stroke, air
resistance can steal power from the engine. Air resistance can be reduced
dramatically by putting two intake valves in each cylinder. Some newer cars are
also using polished intake manifolds to eliminate air resistance there. Larger
air filters can also improve airflow.
Let drain out more easily-if air resistance makes it difficult for a
cylinder, exhaust robs engine power. Air resistance can be reduced with the
addition of a second exhaust valve per cylinder (a car with 2 exhaust and intake
values 2 has 4 valves per cylinder, which improves performance-when you hear a
car advertisement tell you the car has 4 cylinders and 16 valves, what are you
saying the announcement is that the engine has four valves per cylinder). If the
drain hose is too small or the muffler has a lot of air resistance, this can
cause back pressure that has the same effect. Headers, large systems tail pipes
and fluid to remove the mufflers back pressure in the exhaust system high
performance exhaust. When you hear that a car has "dual flush", the aim is to
improve the exhaust stream having two exhaust pipes instead of one.
Make everything lighter-lighter parts will help your engine run better.
Whenever a piston changes direction uses energy to stop the journey in one
direction and start it in another. Lighter than the piston, it takes less
energy.
Inject the fuel-Fuel injection allows for very precise measurement of fuel to
each cylinder. This improves performance and fuel economy.
