When change your engine oil?

Hello everyone!

Long maintenance intervals are feasible only if the car is driven under ideal conditions.
Multi-valve engines today sophisticated and advances in technology of petroleum, led to much longer maintenance intervals for new cars. In some cases, automakers with confidence claim that maintenance is required only at intervals of up to 15,000 km.

But many drivers are risking engine damage and premature wear taking these claims at face value. You have to read the fine print to understand that the long maintenance intervals are feasible only if the car is driven under ideal conditions.

The booklet contains advice probably suggesting that, if you drive your car in adverse conditions, it is necessary to change the oil and do so more frequently served. Adverse conditions are not necessarily limited to a crossing of the Simpson Desert. Most of us actually drive our cars in an environment that is extremely hard with engine oil. Mitsubishi recommends that the following situations require more frequent oil changes. Most other auto manufacturers have similar lists:

Frequent short (for example, the average trip being less than eight kilometers).

More than 50 percent of your driving in heavy traffic.

Sustained high-speed driving at temperatures above 32 degrees.

Driving in dusty conditions, sandy or salted.

Continuous operation at higher than normal load, especially towing.

According to Castrol, current motors generally last about 200,000 miles. If they are well cared for, especially in terms of regular oil changes, may go up to 500,000 miles without a major overhaul. You would expect an oil company to encourage more frequent oil changes, but it is a valid point of Castrol.
